Message from Director Kathy ErvinThis play explores the mystery of love through the eyes of Rudy and his circle of family and friends as they try to explain how to "speak from your heart". The play is a lovely reminder of the sweet, personal thing love is meant to be. Every character has a different idea about how to get the relationship going. Some ideas use common sense and some are farfetched. But all the characters understand the importance of the first impression.
We picked this play because of the opportunity to live in the world of Gary Soto was very exciting. Mr. Soto is a writer whose work speaks clearly to a young audience and reminds an older one of our past. Uncle Juan and the Old Man character provide comic relief and also another perspective on "love potions". The play’s humor is in the recognition of how we handle the old problem of boy meets girl. We had a lot of fun exploring this world, hope you will too!
